Welcome to the second installment of New Map Updates With The RWC Crew! Before we get into this month’s showcases, we want to announce that we have decided to post these dev-blogs in “bursts'' to ensure that we still have plenty of quality things to show you. As such, after the third installment, there will be a few months off before we come back with another burst of three dev-blogs. We also want to thank those who asked questions about the previous installment. We love your feedback and encourage more of it as it helps us think of more ideas or additions to current projects we are working on. We always look to improve on developments from our past, and this month, we will be talking about several features from this current map that will be making a comeback. The projects we are highlighting this month include the Railroad Owner’s Club, the Dent Lake Dry Docks, and the return of regen-mines. Railroad Owner's club To start off, this project was actually first conceptualized for the New Map. We really wanted to explore the idea of creating more exclusive options for the players who have the Railroad Owner rank, so we experimented with creating a sort of “hang-out” zone for everyone with it. We started working on a seemingly ordinary building with a secret entrance to this party area. After entering the secret code you would find yourself taking an elevator to the roof where you can enjoy many offerings from exclusive items, to fancy food and drinks. We also want to create an area where you can play small games or even enjoy a firework show from an elevated VIP viewing area. As you can see in the screenshots in this post we are still working on developing a lot of the features the club will offer, but the general concept is in place. We ended up bringing this idea to the current map which you can see on the corner of Main Street and BriK&Large Avenue in Spawn. We plan to bring most of the same features you can find in the current one to the work-in-progress build we have on the New Map. Dent Lake Dry DocksA few years back we had a massive ship-building boom across the server. There were a lot of very large, intricate, and amazing builds. A lot of players built their ships on dry docks and then asked for staff to move them. However, due to the influx of these requests, we couldn’t keep up. We wanted to be able to bring this idea back, so we started working on a staff-operated, public dry dock. Located just off of Spawn Line, on the shores of Dent Lake, you will be able to construct these massive builds once more. Essentially, there are five slots which you rent out based on build size and duration of construction time. Once your build is complete you will then be able to get a staff member to move your ship to wherever you want it. This streamlines the process for both players and staff. The entire facility comes complete with plenty of yard access for your trains, as well as storage facilities and plenty of space to work with. We hope the Dent Lake Dry Docks becomes a fun place for all players to explore their creativity and share their ship builds. Regen MinesRegen mines are another system, like warping which was discussed in the last dev-blog, that has undergone a massive rework. As many have noticed, the current regen mines are not random. To prevent issues with this in the past, we have manually shuffled the mines, but this takes a fair bit of effort on our part. This is no longer the case with the new regen mines. We have put forth a great deal of effort to ensure the new regen mines are non-intrusive and infinitely more diverse. Despite the new mines being randomized with each run, we still maintain control over what is included in them. Because of this, specialized mines like Culdee Fell on the current map, can and will continue to exist, providing players with a convenient place to collect all sorts of different materials. ConclusionWe’ve come to the end of this month's New Map Updates! Please post any questions you might have in the questions thread attached to our general chat on Discord. Thank you again for reading this and allowing us to share our projects with you. |
